A trommel screen is a slowly rotating, perforated drum. Mixed waste is fed in at one end; smaller material falls through the holes while larger material travels to the far end. It is usually the first mechanical step in a Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
Why it matters
Separating by size early protects downstream machines and lets organic fines go straight to composting.
Points to check when choosing one
- Drum diameter and length for your tonnes per hour
- Hole size and shape for the fraction you want
- Drive, bearings and wear plates built for abrasive waste
